This evening, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended a pre-tour reception held at Kensington Palace, ahead of their forthcoming visit to India and Bhutan.
The purpose of the reception was to give William and Kate the chance to meet young people from India and Bhutan who are currently studying or working in the UK. The event was an opportunity for the royal couple to learn more about India and Bhutan's people, history, current affairs and culture.
For the occasion, Kate premiered a new gown from London-based, Indian-born designer, Saloni. You may recall that Kate first wore the label in November 2015, following the announcement of the royal tour to the subcontinent.
Tonight, she wore the designer's Blue Mary Illusion Dot Dress (£498). It is from the Pre-Fall 2016 collection and was available for pre-purchase at Moda Operandi. It will soon be available to pre-order from the Saloni website.
The maxi-length dress features an Edwardian-style silhouette with an illusion plunging neckline. The dress has a navy devoré dotted sheer overlay and inset belted waist. It is made in the United Kingdom from a blended fabric of 80% rayon and 20% silk.
Some of you have asked how Kate managed to pull off such a daring sheer neckline, yet look modest? In the photo below, I can see the outline of skin-toned lining (located between the 8th and 9th row of dots from the top). Click on the image to expand the size, and you will get a better glimpse of the chest lining.
Tonight, Kate accessorized with her Cassandra Goad gold 'Temple of Heaven' girandole pendant earrings - perhaps a sartorial nod to the iconic Buddhist temples in Bhutan.
On her feet were the Rupert Sanderson 'Malory' Navy Suede Pumps.
The India/Bhutan tour kicks off on the 10th of April. It will be the first time that the royal couple has visited either country. I'm really looking forward to covering this tour! It will mean very little sleep for me over the course of the 6 days, but I know it will be worth it!
