As the oldest and most senior British order of chivalry—founded by Edward III in 1348—the Order is celebrated each June with a traditional procession and service at St George's Chapel. Prince William has been a Royal Knight Companion of the Garter since 2008.

For this historic occasion, the Princess of Wales stepped out in a new tailored coat dress by Patrick McDowell—marking her first time wearing a piece by the British designer.

Royal watchers may recall that last May, the Princess presented the Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design to McDowell, who is widely known for championing circular fashion, upcycling, and ethical production.

Crafted from a lightweight linen-and-viscose blend damask, the 'Wales' coat dress is rendered in a custom pale yellow—though it is currently offered in white on the designer's website. The mid-calf piece is meticulously designed to sculpt the body, utilizing structured hip pockets and a defined waist to create a striking, modern pannier silhouette.

The coat dress was perfectly complemented by a new Jane Taylor 'Enid' boater hat, crafted from soft yellow straw and finished with a matching satin bow.

Today, the Princess stepped out in a pastel sky-blue 'Lafayette' coatdress by Catherine Walker, layered over a flowing white chiffon dress (or skirt), creating a soft and elegant aesthetic.

The 'Lafayette' has an elongated silhouette with structured shoulders, clean princess seams, and a sculpted bodice that contours the waist before falling into a fluid midi-length skirt.
Picture
Contrast trim highlights the angular lapels and asymmetric front, drawing attention to the double-breasted fastening and fabric-covered buttons. Sleek sleeves are finished with subtle cuff detailing that echoes the lapel edge.
Many have drawn comparisons between this design and the Catherine Walker coat worn by the late Diana, Princess of Wales, with a young Prince William at her side mirroring his mother's look.

Catherine complemented the coatdress with a new sinamay hat - a custom version of Philip Treacy's OC 315 style from the milliner’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection.

The striking design features an oversized saucer brim in soft blue, accented by sculptural satin detailing on one side and finished with an elegant white dome.

For today's nuptials, the Princess of Wales wore a creamy palette consisting of a Roland Mouret Folded Collar Belted Bouclé Dress (£750).

Crafted from a heavyweight bouclé knit in dark cream, this short-sleeved maxi dress features matching fabric-covered buttons and a coordinating belt, complemented by a folded collar with fringed trim. The design is finished with a pleated skirt, discreet slip pockets at the side seams, and a concealed back zipper.

The Princess wore her hair down and debuted the Jane Taylor ‘Hera’ straw hat with a satin bow (£1,600). She chose to wear the bow positioned at the back, whereas the milliner styles it at the front on the brand’s website.
