Princess Kate looks regal in red Alexander McQueen coat for Welsh Guards St David's Day Parade1/3/2023
The Prince and Princess of Wales attended the Welsh Guards St David's Day Parade at Combermere Barracks on Wednesday. It marked the first occasion since Prince William assumed the position of Colonel of the Regiment from his father after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
As part of the St David's Day Parade, The Prince of Wales presented leeks to the Officers and Guardsmen during the event, who then distributed them along the ranks, as per tradition.
Established in 1915 by Royal Warrant of George V during the First World War, the Welsh Guards is one of the Foot Guards regiments of the British Army. The royal couple sat for an official photo with The Prince of Wales’s company following the parade.
They then met families from the Regiment as well as a group of troops from the 5th Royal Australian Regiment who are currently in the UK helping to train the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Catherine, Princess of Wales wore a red and black ensemble for the occasion. She debuted a custom Alexander McQueen slim-fit midi coat.
The coat boasts a double-breasted style with padded shoulders, peak lapels, flap pockets at the hip, and a chest welt pocket. While the off-the-rack edition (£2,990) has an asymmetrical hemline, this feature was not present in Kate's coat.
The Princess wore a long black scarf tucked into her coat, and we also got a glimpse of a red midi dress.
She also premiered the 'Bow & Arrow' hat (£570) by London based milliner, Juliette Botterill.
The made-to-order peachbloom felt hat is trimmed with a stylish bow and two arrow feathers.
We saw the return of the black perforated leather gloves by Serbian fashion designer Evica Milovanov-Penezić.
Some may recall seeing them more than sixteen years ago when Kate wore the gloves for Prince William’s 2006 Sovereign's parade at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
Today she carried her Mulberry Small Amberley Crossbody Bag in Black Croc.
On Kate's feet were her custom Gianvito Rossi Block Heel Boots in Black Suede featuring a pointed toe.
The Princess brought back her Asprey London Daisy Heritage Diamond Earrings.
For the ceremony, Kate wore a St David's Day leek, and a delicate diamond leek brooch pinned to the lapel of her coat.
It is a replica of the Welsh Guards Leek Brooch worn by the late Queen Elizabeth II. The original brooch was designed for Her Majesty in 1960 in the style of the Cap badge of the Welsh Guards. It was a regimental gift funded by the guardsmen.
Replicas of this symbolic brooch were made for several members of the royal family, and some speculate the brooch worn by Kate is the one Princess Diana wore.
