Cartier Halo Scroll Tiara
On her wedding day, Kate Middleton wore Cartier's Halo Scroll Tiara, lent to her by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II . The diadem was made in 1936 when George VI commissioned Cartier to design the tiara for his wife, Elizabeth just weeks before he acceded to the throne after the abdication of his brother, King Edward VIII.
Elizabeth (The Queen Mother) was only pictured wearing it before she became Queen Consort. She gifted the headpiece to her eldest daughter, Princess Elizabeth (now The Queen) on her 18th birthday, however, Elizabeth II never wore the Cartier Halo tiara publicly. The tiara is made from platinum, featuring 739 brilliant-cut diamonds, along with 149 baguette-cut diamonds. The pretty wave-like shapes on the headpiece are described as scroll motifs and the tiara has also been reported to give off a halo of light, giving it the name: the 'Halo Scroll Tiara'. |
