The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge attended the ceremonial naming of the new polar research ship, the RRS Sir David Attenborough, in Birkenhead today.
Kate stepped out in a familiar blue coatdress by Alexander McQueen.
The bespoke piece was first wore in New Zealand to the Blenheim War Memorial in April 2014 and again later that year for the 70th anniversary of D-Day commemorations. She brought back the coat in February 2016 for a service marking the 75th Anniversary of Air Cadets.
The Duchess teamed the coat with a new bag by Asprey London (ID by @WhatKateWore). She carried the heritage brand's 1781 Pochette in Blueberry Bullskin (US$1,950).
On her feet Kate wore her Emmy London 'Josie' Navy Block Heel Pointed Pumps.
She finished the look with her Mappin & Webb Empress Drop Earrings.

This outfit is typical of the Duchess of Cambridge, a classic coat paired with neutral accessories in mathcing colours. She always looks polished and regal, I just wish that we would see her experiment a little bit with her shoes. She has been wearing pants more often lately, which is a great addition to her closet and something we didn't see her doing during her first royal years. I am a little bored of the classic pump style, or even the block heel alternative. There are so many nice and stylish options out there, it feels like she dresses way beyond her years more often than not. She can be a little playful too, she is neither Priness of Wales nor Queen Consort yet. The Duchess of Sussex alternates between pumps and more modern styles, I believe Kate can take inspiration and work towards freshening up her style in that regard.

I know people are entitled to their opinions when it comes to Kate's style and thats fine but I'm really getting tired and annoyed with the same comments saying that Kate needs style tips from Meghan to be modern. Now this is my opinion I find Meghan's style ok, some outfits are nice while others are just really meh to me. Also we all know now that Kate isn't into fashion trends and honestly I like the fact she's just being herself and being comfortable of dressing the way she wants too. Will and Kate are going to Pakistan soon so maybe Kate will be a bit adventurous with her style. I hope my comment doesn't come off as too harsh but people can say she can be modern without saying she needs tips from somebody else.

I am afraid what I said might have been misunderstood. I was not suggesting that the DoC copy the DoS. Personally, I like Kate's style more than I like Meghan's. I just think that the Duchess of Sussex has shown that a pair of shoes can be modern and classy without being too fashionable to be worn by a member of the royal family. Kate has her own style, it would be nice to see her expanding though.

I agree. I would like to see her alter between modern and her regular style.

The Duchess looks lovely, the colour of the coat is pretty. I like the coat, but am not a fan of the pockets, so large. I have to agree about the shoes. The block heel not a fan of at all. I preferred the shoe the Duchess wore in the repeat April 2014 photo. Her hair pulled back on that day looked great, I liked that so much more than out as it was today.

Polished. Predictable. But, polished.
