The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge joined the Queen and other members of the royal family for the opening day of Royal Ascot.
Ascot Racecourse is steeped in heritage and history and was founded by Queen Anne in 1711. Over the past 300 years, Ascot has established itself as a national institution; with Royal Ascot becoming the centrepiece of the British social calendar and the ultimate stage for the best racehorses in the world.
The annual meeting spans over five days and each day begins with a Royal Procession - the arrival of The Queen and the Royal party in horse-drawn landaus. Her Majesty was accompanied by The King and Queen of the Netherlands today.
The iconic race meeting is a social event and long been a spectacle of fashion and style.
The Duchess used the occasion to make a designer debut. Today she stepped out in a blue Elie Saab ensemble. This is the first time we have seen Kate wear a garment by the Lebanese fashion designer.
The swiss dot fabric with macramé trim is seen in the designer's ready-to-wear Resort 2019 collection Thanks to @Japanese_Ginger for the info.
Kate had the pussy bow top customized with long sleeves, and the tulle skirt trimmed to a midi length with extra layers of tulle added for full coverage.
The Duchess coordinated the separates with a new blue hat by Philip Treacy. You may recall she already owns this design in a pink colourway.
The molded slice hat features rosettes under the brim and is from the milliner's S/S 2016 collection.
There was also a new clutch and shoes. She carried an Elie Saab Abat-Jour Metallic and Leather Clutch Bag, and on her feet Kate wore Gianvito Rossi 105 metallic leather pumps (US$745).
We saw the return of her KIKI Blue Topaz and Diamond Drop Earrings.
A closer look at Kate's elegant up-do.

I like the dress and I love the color, but I don't like the lace running down the sleeve. Perhaps it's there for a reason, but it looks odd to me.

Are long sleeves required for Ascot? Or just a preference?

This is a very dowdy look, and way too fussy, but I do love the accessories and Kate is beautiful in this colour.

This is by far one of Kate's greatest looks. I am so thrilled to see her in Elie Saab for the first time! She truly looks like a princess.

The Duchess looks lovely. The skirt I love, but the shirt I am not a fan of, way too fussy with all the lace, especially on the sleeves and shoulders. The colour suits her so well. Her up do is stunning. Love the hat. Her shoes and bag, gorgeous

I would like this a lot more without the bow at the neck. For me, that is what makes it look like there is too much going on.

This is a fresh look for Kate. It has a real summer feel to it with the sheer sleeves and the overall look is very pleasing. The metallic shoes and bag are a push outside her traditional zone for these accessories but it suits what she is wearing. The hat is fabulous as is her hair.

The dress is gorgeous. She should have really worn it for the Chelsea Flower show she opened earlier this year. It only makes her look better than ever before!

The blue Elie Saab outfit is perfection on Catherine with leather silver pumps and clutch. It is nice to see the Duchess break out with an outfit and accessories that is different and appropriate at the same time, now if she wears white leather pumps and clutch this summer season with one of her outfits that we can see, would also be astonishing. 💙
