The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge made their debut appearance at Royal Ascot today.
Ascot Racecourse is steeped in heritage and history and was founded by Queen Anne in 1711. Over the past 300 years, Ascot has established itself as a national institution; with Royal Ascot becoming the centrepiece of the British social calendar and the ultimate stage for the best racehorses in the world.
The annual meeting spans over five days and each day begins with a Royal Procession - the arrival of The Queen and the Royal party in horse-drawn landaus.
For today's royal carriage procession, Her Majesty was joined by Prince Phillip, Prince Charles, the Duchess or Cornwall, the Earl and Countess of Wessex, Crown Prince and Princess of Denmark, and the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge.
The iconic race meeting is a social event and long been a spectacle of fashion and style.
Kate didn't disappoint in the style stakes. She looked lady-like in her white Dolce & Gabbana midi lace dress (US$5,995). She premiered the frock last month at the Royal Windsor Horse Show.
This midi dress is crafted from cotton-blend lace with sheer sleeves, and features a nipped-in waist and tiered skirt. It comes with a smooth satin slip for coverage.
I couldn't help but wonder if Kate's choice of dress was inspired by the Ascot race scene in the movie My Fair Lady!?
Kate donned a new Jane Taylor hat for the occasion. She wore the milliner's 'Una' floral mesh disc with angular feather & twist (£1,050).
She also wore a new pair of diamond and pearl drop earrings.
ID UPDATE (17/16/2016):
Anna from My Small Obsessions has suggested they may be a bespoke piece from Robinson Pelham. The jeweler has responded with "Due to our client confidentially we cannot confirm or deny whether we made these earrings." However, judging from Anna's montage it's evident they are a Pelham design!
Kate accessorized with her familiar LK Bennett 'Natalie' straw clutch and Ginavito Rossi Praline suede 'Gianvito 105' pumps.
It has felt like a royal tour this week, with seven appearances by Kate in the past six days! Kate's next scheduled event is on the June 22nd. It's reported she will host a charity gala in aid of East Anglia's Children's Hospices.

I totally agree with you about her possible reasoning behind her choice of the white lace dress. If I'm not mistaken, she was in the play My Fair Lady when she was a young girl.
