Princess Kate premieres Self-Portrait and Chanel for reopening of National Portrait Gallery20/6/2023
On Tuesday, the Princess of Wales, who serves as the Patron of the National Portrait Gallery (NPG), officially reopened the Gallery after a comprehensive three-year refurbishment programme.
The NPG's transformation marks its most significant redevelopment since 1896. The refurbishment programme includes a comprehensive redisplay of the Collection in beautifully renovated galleries, over 50 new acquisitions, and the restoration of the Grade I listed building.
On the Gallery's forecourt, The Princess met with Jamie Fobert, Project Architect, and acclaimed artist Tracey Emin, who was commissioned to create an artwork for the Gallery's new doors, incorporating 45 carved brass panels, representing 'every woman, throughout time'.
During her visit, The Princess toured the Gallery and viewed its recent acquisition, Joshua Reynolds' Portrait of Mai (Omai), considered one of Britain's finest portraits.
To mark today's reopening in London, The Princess stepped out in a new Self-Portrait dress ($550).
In this elegant midi dress by Self-Portrait, a tailored jacket crafted from metallic bouclé is paired with a chiffon pleated skirt. The dress features crystal-embellished pockets and buttons, along with a coordinating belt to complete the look.
The Princess has previously worn a few comparable designs from the London-based brand, shown below:
She also debuted a Chanel Classic Wallet on Chain in black lambskin ($3,350), priced at $3,350. This choice was particularly fitting, as one of the new gallery exhibitions is supported by the CHANEL Culture Fund.
She complemented her sophisticated look with the addition of her Heavenly London Imitation Pearl & Diamond Earrings.
The Princess wore her hair down, showcasing a more pronounced wave than her usual style.

This is a lovely Chanel-inspired ensemble without the price tag. The Chanel clutch is simply darling and indeed a good choice for today's outing. With that said, I do hope we never see another one of these Self-Portrait dresses. Kate's hair and makeup today were exceptionally beautiful.

I'm not a fan of the Self - Portrait dresses, but this dress looks nice. Love the shoes. Earrings are pretty.

Really? I LOVE most Self-Portrait dresses. They are so detailed and feminine. I don't love this blazer and midi skirt combo but it looks nice on Kate as always. The Chanel bag definitely elevates this outfit.

Of all of the Self Portrait dresses we've seen, this is my favorite. She looks lovely in white and the Chanel clutch is an understanded, but luxurious, touch. Overall, very pleased with this look.
