Following this morning's visit to Balfour Hospital, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge continued their tour of Orkney this afternoon with a visit to the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC).
Before heading off shore to see the power turbines, Kate and William stopped to greet the crowd that had gathered to see them.
The EMEC is the only accredited wave and tidal test centre for marine renewable energy in the world. The turbine the Duke and Duchess visited will become the most powerful on the planet, capable of meeting the electricity demand of up to 2,000 UK homes. The work of the EMEC aligns with the aims of The Royal Foundation's Earthshot Prize to help repair the environment over the next decade.
