Princess Kate in all-British brands for Boston city welcome

The Prince and Princess of Wales have arrived in Boston for a 3-day visit to the US culminating in the Earthshot Prize awards ceremony on Friday evening. The royal couple were welcomed to the city by Mayor Michelle Wu and her family at City Hall Plaza.

They assembled at Speaker's Corner to celebrate bringing Earthshot to Boston by lighting up Boston City Hall and other landmarks in green.

The Princess choose an all-British ensemble for her first public engagement in Boston. She wore a custom green tartan dress by Burberry.

Laura (@Japanese_Ginger) points out that the design is based on the Burberry 'Aurora' gathered-detail midi dress, rendered in a Dark Viridian Green tartan found in the Autumn/Winter 2022 collection.

The coat is a bespoke piece by Alexander McQueen. It features a notched collar, inset waist with button opening, flap pockets, and tabs at the cuffs.

The Princess carried a green Mulberry Small 'Amberley' Satchel featuring a top handle.

Below is the crossbody version which is the only style currently available. As far I can see, the top handle model was only ever available in a crocodile embossed leather.

On her feet Kate wore her Emmy London 'Rebecca' Pumps in Greenery Suede.

The Princess debuted the Chunky Knot Baroque Pearl Earrings (£72) by ethical jewelry brand Shyla. Based in London, Shyla offers contemporary yet affordable designs using natural stones and recycled metals.

Later this evening, The Prince and Princess of Wales will attend a Boston Celtics game at the TD Garden.

Fabulous outfit, another zinger from Kate. The Burberry dress is a real treat for its unusual approach to plaid, sending the traditional print into asymmetric wizardry of criss-cross lines. This takes it from a mere classic into the exceptional and eye-catching;. I think it's well served by the long hem which keeps up a funky vibe while maintaining royal polish.

The coat had me puzzled for a while trying to work out when Kate might have worn it before. Turns out as the latest entry to her green McQueen overcoat collection, it represents a small first by having the open revere collar. a couple of earlier versions at least having been buttoned up to the throat. It has also dispensed with double-breasted by using a neat fold-over front plus inset waistband finished off by just two discreet buttons.

She looked beautiful as usual, but wearing a new hunter green coat by McQueen was necessary when she already has two other hunter green coats very similar. Just a little over indulgence in my opinion.

This is a well designed dress that adds pizazz to a tartan pattern.The Mulberry satchel is a very smart handbag and one I would choose for myself.

Perhaps the new green McQueen coat will have a second wearing next St Patrick's Day.
